I’m selling my 2015 228i convertible with 30,000 mile. I’m looking into a new Bronco or a used/new Rubicon. Any suggestions?

From these two neither one if you want reliability and quality. If you really like to have one of these lease it and get rid of it before it starts having problems.

What is your recommendation for this type of vehicle?

Unfortunately there aren't that many options in this class so either lease one of these or if you can find one in this market to me the closest thing you can find to these is a FJ Cruiser (if you want to buy and keep). Or if you're open to considering other options and want off roading look into the 4Runner too.

While I would get neither for longevity/reliability, I’ll just focus on the two as is.

The Rubicon/Wrangler used to be the crème de la crème of the off roading world. Nothing really came close to its versatility and utility, IMHO.

But the Bronco (NOT the Bronco Sport) gives it a run for its money. It’s 4x4 technologically is more sophisticated than the Rubicon/Wrangler and probably anything else in the market.

I took a test ride in them both.  On a purpose built course none the less.  And the Bronco just feels more impressive. I wasn’t too impressed with the Rubicon/Wrangler. It felt antiquated and behind the times.

Good thing you're selling your BMW. Consider @fjcruiser2014 's advice.

Neither of them will be good for long term purchase, especially past warranty, so I can’t recommend either one for purchase.  But if you plan to get rid of before the warranty expires, then it comes down to your needs/priorities:  If you prize road comfort and spend most of your time (if not all) on the road, then the Bronco will be better.  But if you prize off-road prowess and want the most capable off-road vehicle, then there is no match for the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.

They're both quite awful, I don't even know what one's worse.

Have you considered a 4Runner? It's a much better vehicle, they also offer it in "trail special edition" and "TRD off-road Premium" trims.
