VW bug.

Sorry Chuck...I forgot to upvote you when I made my post. But I've done it now. Hot Drink

Also, just to be clear, I didn't mean "oddly enough" as in you never give good advice. You definitely do and I appreciate it. I was just saying it probably sounds odd to hear a Beetle being recommended. So no offense intended there my friend.

Lol oddly enough Chuck has got the right idea here. The Beetle is reliable and infinitely easy to work on.

Rear engine really narrows your choices. I LOVE 911's, but honestly if you have a budget of $50k I wouldn't recommend one. The maintenance costs are high and they are more for people who don't have to track those kind of expenses.

So yeah, I guess I'd say the original Beetle.

I was quite serious. It's hard to think of a rear-engine car more reliable and easier to work on or with greater parts availability than a bug. Corvairs are great too but the VW has the edge when it comes to overall quality and reliability. (I've had both.)

Yeah I'd put the VW before the Corvair as well. Too bad modern VW's are just so terrible.

A Volkswagen beetle hands down, they can run forever. Don't even think about buying a used Porsche 911 (specifically the 996 and early 997 models), since they are endless money pits and have the IMS bearing issues. That said if you love Porsches and you have a lot of money for maintaining and repairing the thing, see if you can find a 991, although it's gonna be hard to since they have high resale value and classic air-cooled 911's are becoming collector's items so they can cost 6 figures. Otherwise, spend the money on a nice classic beetle.
