Scotty I have a small story for you. I have a 2018 Mazda Cx-5 AWD 112000+ majority of is highway driving. I went to the local Mazda dealership for an oil change bc they allowed me to use my filter and oil. (I use high mileage castrol bc that’s the brand of oil mazda recommended) the book says it take 4.5 quarts I brought them a 5 quart jug. The service advisor said they had to add another quart. So the car has 5.5 quarts. Is this going to destroy my engine?

Dipstick says it’s within full marks.

then they changed your oil correctly.

That's what the dipstick is for. What does the dipstick say?

the book isn't always right.

Book with filter change is 4.5 quarts. Dipstick says it’s within full marks.

Part 2 of of story is that Mazda has “lifetime brake pads” I needed new brakes for the rear. Basically if the pads are purchased and installed by dealer, you would never have to pay for pads again. Well… that’s a lie. And they advertise it. I complained to Mazda corporate and they said that I didn’t get the “lifetime pads”. That being said I’m not going to this dealer anymore unless there is a shop that can’t do a job.

@mtorrettalive.com “So the car has 5.5 quarts”

It has been a while since I studied elementary math but doesn’t 5 quarts of oil from a 5-quart jug (assuming that it was unopened) plus an additional 1 quart of oil added by the dealership equal 6 quarts?🤔

Seems it would be too much for a 2.5 liter engine if that is what you have. Anyhoo, as @imperator advised, check the ole dip stick. If it is above the maximum fill line then it is best to remove the excess. And if that is the case, I would take it back to the dealership and let them correct the (their) overfill.

Don't forget the oil in the filter.
