Both Headlights went Out at the Same Time on 2007 Honda Accord

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2007 Honda Accord with the 4 cylinder engine and automatic transmission with 170k miles on it. A couple of days ago both the headlights quit working. It is only the low beams that aren't working. All the relevant fuses look ok. I tested the bulb on the passenger side with some gator clips and the battery and the bulb was fine. Any suggestions on where to look next? I was thinking the actual switch where you turn the lights on and off.

Thanks.

On those Honda's generally either the switch itself a headlight switch is bad or the headlight relay realize there is a relay for the low beam in a separate relay for the high beam

Get a test light/voltmeter to check voltage on fuse 1 and 6 in underhood fuse/relay box with headlights on and in low beam position.  If you have 12 volts on both sides of these 2 fuses, then it's a wiring issue between that fuse box and the headlight(s).

If voltage only on 1 side of fuses, then bad fuses.

If no voltage at these 2 fuses, swap high beam relay with low beam relay in same fuse box.  Low beams work now and high beams don't?  If yes, go get a relay (this is likely what the problem is).  If no and same problem... let me know as it could get a bit more complicated...

@hillbilly
Fuses had no voltage with low beams on. As I mentioned below, the headlight control unit is in the sealed portion of the fuse box, so no way to test that. I pulled the switch from the steering wheel area and did a continuity test on it with it in the on position and it didn't seem to have a problem. The switch connects to the wiper blade switch, which also passed the continuity test. Interestingly enough, while I was putting everything back together, the headlights worked for a second. I'm wondering if there is a short in the wiring going out of the wiper switch and out to the relays. I do hear the relays click as well when I turn them on... Not sure if that means much.

Thanks for the quick responses. My particular model doesn't seem to have relays for the low beams. According to this, the headlight control unit is in the sealed portion of the fuse box under the hood. This matches with what I am seeing on my vehicle. I did swap the fuses between low/high beam and no go on the low beams, but the high beams still worked. I'll try the other tests tomorrow.

Yea, that was the bit more complicated I mentioned at the end.  Don't bother with other tests I mentioned as I was only walking you through a process for your experience and to insure I made a good recommendation.  Unfortunately there's not much on that module and the whole thing, as best I can determine, will need to be replaced...from Honda (can't find anywhere else).
