Hello, I have a 2000 Honda Accord with 220,000miles, 2.3l engine and 5 speed m/t.

Bit of a story time but my car was driving fine and shifting fine, and then I let a friend of mine borrow the car for a day and he gave it back to me that same night. I didn’t use the car until the next day and when I tried putting it into first it would just go back into neutral, same with 3rd and 5th, and there was no resistance whatsoever. The only gears that I could put it into was 2nd, 4th and reverse, and those gears would stay in its place. I was taking off in 2nd and shifting into 4th only. After about 10 minutes of driving though, I was coming to a stop still in 4th gear, but I no longer could get it out of 4th gear into neutral, it was just stuck. Luckily I got it to drive into a parking lot, and went inside the engine bay to find the end of the linkage, manually slid it to the left and it popped back into neutral from there. Then I proceeded to drive only in 2nd gear back home as it couldn’t go back into neutral from the shifter. I mostly look up videos on finding and fixing problems, but I can’t seem to find anything on this specifically.Where should I begin to look to try and find what happened? Could it just be the shift cables that seized and just need to get replaced?

Check your shifter mechanism alignment. Has the trans lube ever been changed in the last 25 years/220K miles? If not the thing may well be toast.
