Hello. I have a 2007 Scion tC and last night while driving I put on the brakes and the car veered hard to the left. I noticed a little while later the check engine light came on. Could this be from the brakes? Thanks

You'd have to scan for codes to see why the check engine light came on. Usually the only codes for the brake system would be for ABS and that would trigger the ABS light on the dash rather than the check engine light.
You may have a sticking caliper causing uneven braking. If you're comfortable working on brakes take the wheels off and check what's going on there. Otherwise take it to a mechanic for diagnosis.

brake problems usually trigger the brake light, not the engine light.
