burning oil

Hey Scotty, what's your best method to tackle a truck that burns "some" oil? Burns maybe 1qt per 3k miles. 1998 f150 5.4L with 300k on it.

Thanks

Live with it and add oil as needed would be the best thing to do. 300k mileage and that old, it is not surprising it burns a little oil. Unless you want to rebuild the motor, I would not bother with it.

Crap thats a pretty low usage for age/mileage. No need to do anything.

Amen. Some manufacturers claim that a quart every 1000 miles is "normal". You have better things to worry about.

add oil as you need to and don't run the engine dry

I have the same issue with my 98 4Runner and I just add oil as needed. Just be aware that there are vehicles that are just a few years old that burn a quart or two of oil after a few hundred miles.
