Burning oil when warming up engine

My 07 Mazda mazdaspeed3 (132k miles, turbocharged 2.3L I4, 6-speed manual) seems to be burning oil when I let the car get to temp. The new turbo was installed in February this year (old one blew out). I run 5w40 oil because that's what I've seen recommended for this car. Have had an issue with oil consumption (burning at least 3 quarts every full tank of gas). I topped off my oil level before driving 70 miles. when I got there the oil was low. Topped it off and headed the same route back. When I got back the oil level didn't change at all. The only difference I can think of is that I let the car warm up for the first trip. How do I fix this?

Change the PCV valve. If that doesn't help and the oil is not leaking, your engine is most likely worn out. You could try the ATS Carbon Clean treatment that Scotty recommends in the event your oil control rings are gunked up with carbon.

Thank you, I'll look into changing the PCV valve. The oil isn't leaking, I left for 2 weeks this summer and the level didn't change. Ordering the ATS now.

Bear in mind that many oil leaks only manifest themselves when the engine is running. To be certain you could use a UV dye to check for any leaks.
