Hi,
I Want to know if it is a good idea to buy a Cadillac STS 2007 WITH the V8 NorthStars 4.6L Engine
Was looking for ones at 190 000Km (118 060 Miles)
This is the reliable engine !
Just wanna know what you thought about it.
Thanks

Northstar? Reliable?? {blackemo}:laughtertotears:
I was working for GM when we engineered that thing. Internally we called it the "Deathstar". Overly complex, difficult to work on, and prone to popping more head gaskets than Orville Rendenbacher popped kernels.
I wouldn't recommend it. Neither would these people:

That's for the DTS, but the STS suffered all the same issues.
Weren’t the headbolts on the Northstar’s after 2005 replaced with the LS6 ones? But that still didn’t eliminate the head gasket issue?
They did do a replacement on them that reduced the issue, but did not eliminate it sadly. The earlier ones were TERRIBLE about it. But it was one of those things that just plagued that motor until it went out of production.
Better than the earlier, terrible head-gasket destroying ancestors but still a complex engine design. Even GM thought it was too complex and scaled back complexity with the CTS.
And, it's a V-8, at a point when these are disappearing. (The guts of this vehicle were made in China).
Because it was such a poor seller, parts might be hard to find. But, if it's what you want, go for it!
Ight engine. Sure. But caddy's are GM which are now currently like I think like 66% Chinese parts. So beware of cheap sensors and funky electrical & AC. Pretty common on modern GM cars. Not to sure of trans as well. Maybe someone else can tell.
nah skip it its a GM product. look for a lexus GS they have v6 and last much longer, higher resale, more reliable, parts interchangeable with toyota, ls430 with v8
