What's a good sports car to buy that's actually good long term and worth the price?

New or used?

Either is fine, I'm mostly interesting in find a good fit of car for me.

Civic type R

Mazda Miata with manual transmission

Miatas are the perfect first sports car - fun, reliable, available in almost any price range, easy work on, easy to upgrade/tune, thousands available.

Depends really, what are you looking for? Are you a Fast and Furious type person, or do you prefer the American rear wheel drive classic muscle car style? Do you want a daily driver or a weekend toy? Do you want something that is fast on straightaway or something that corners like its on rails?

Very vague question.

I'd also go with the Civic Type R.

If you care about longevity and minimal issues during your ownership period and if we are talking fun to drive 2 door versions (what I think of for sports cars) look at a Mazda MX-5 Miata (more of a roadster though and tiny) or a Lexus RC350.  I would go used for both.

Fast, cheap, reliable:   “Pick any 2 of the 3, but you can’t have all 3” — a wise mechanic once told me.

Stay away from the Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers.

Miata's are chick cars,  they are good cars, but very chicky.

They also scream middle age crisis if male owned

Me, I'd get a Vette.

a Stingray from the 60's

If you have DEEP pockets, a 57, 58, 59

you can still find a good deal on them occasionally

and

miata is not a chick car, just a road legal go-cart

There's a lot of different options out there, really depends on what you're looking for

Thank you all for answering. I'm actually looking for a decent sports car used likely. I actually do enjoy going decently fast and enjoy cornering so I was looking into nissan 370z but mostly interested in going something better and similar to it.

If you like cornering then the Miata is a solid choice. Almost 50/50 weight ratio and with a little bit of work you can go plenty fast cause you don't need a crazy amount of HP to go fast in a Miata. If you into older cars, pop up and down headlights are cool too haha! parts are also cheap and pretty reliable and easy to work on too.

Honda Civic Type R and Mazda Miata with manual trannys. You can also wait for the GR Toyota Corolla (Hot Hatch)since that will be interesting with a high-performance 4 cylinder engine and possibly all-wheel drive.

For used one, get a Honda S2000.

For a new one, I would say Civic Type R or Mazda Miata (manual).
