What should I look out for in AVALON XLS from 2001 with 106,000 miles
Do you have access to the maintenance history? Timing belt and water pump replacement, coolant flush, engine air filter, transmission fluid changes all according to the owners manual maintenance schedule and engine oil and oil filter changes every 5,000 miles. The 1MZ-FE motor has a history of oil sludge formation with insufficient oil changes. Of course check for accident or flood damage and have it thoroughly inspected by a reputable mechanic. And if possible, verify the mileage. 106k miles over 22 years is about 4.8k per year… not impossible but questionable. Also the condition of the interior and paint can be an indication of the care or lack of care given to the vehicle.
It's over two decades old. Have a good mechanic check everything. That model doesn't appear to be particularly prone to serious problems but age takes its toll nonetheless.

Look for oil leak and the power steering rack leak. Also, make sure the timing belt has been taken care of.
