Hi Scotty
Im looking into a 2014 Toyota Tundra 4.6L V8 with 113,500 miles on it and the automatic 6 speed tranny for a pretty good price at a dealership. Just wanted to know your opinion on the 4.6L engine Toyota makes and if it would be worth it to get.
Scotty has frequently spoken positively of the Tundra V8. That said you need to have a good mechanic give it a thorough examination before purchase to verify condition.
The previous model 4.7 many have gone a million miles. I know some are coming close to it in the 5.7 also.
I haven't heard anything bad about the 4.6 really. Keep in mind that it won't get much better gas mileage than the 5.7 though.
At only 113k with good maintenance records, it could go a lot longer.
They are pretty solid. How the truck does in the future is a strong function of how it was taken care of in the past. If the maintenance history is unknown I would pass on it. Hopefully, the vehicle was regularly serviced (for example engine oil and filter changed every 5,000 miles and transmission fluid changed every 40,000 miles being the most important). Even though it is a Toyota, if it wasn’t properly maintained it could be a potential bust later.
.
As always, have a mechanic thoroughly check out the vehicle before purchase.
