Firstly, I drive a Lexus GX 460 that I bought used and has 148k trouble-free miles. I keep my vehicles a very long time (last was a 2004 Honda Pilot with 428,000 Miles when I sold it.) I drive conservatively & maintain my vehicles.
Would it be foolish to spend maybe $9k on a SLK280 with automatic transmission to have for weekend fun drives?
Thanks so much!!!
Only if you have a deep pocket and willing to spend money on that, it makes sense. Otherwise, forget it.
Ur talking about weekend driving use, so it might not be a bad idea. However. do have a mechanic check it out cuz they are very complex cars and god knows what is wrong with it, if its nothing major then go ahead and buy it, but I would never buy it for daily driving cuz you would be spending a fortune repairing and maintaining it.
As long as you have won the lottery and love to walk everywhere, sure, buy it.
The problem is that $9,000 can easily morph into $18,000 even as a weekend toy if something (multiple things) go wrong with that vehicle and you have to take it in to a mechanic or (God forbid) the stealership. If you are not going to do almost all of the work yourself (and know where to source parts at wholesale prices a la YouTube Master Mechanics The Car Wizard and LegitStreetCars), I would easily pass on it.
