Ok I need advice here . I have a 2010 toyota corolla le . I take it to the local toyota dealership for service. I took it in dismorning for a oil change. It has been over 5,000 miles since my last one so I said time to change . They tell me that I read the sticker kinda wrong that the sticker states that it was for to bring the car back in for service around 5,000 miles. So I go ahead and do the services like replacing the wipers the tune up the brake fluid you know the usual but my question is should I be concerned about the oil or can a modern car really go up to 100,000 miles without one ?
What’s the present mileage?
184,678
Yes, if you have a replacement engine waiting in the wings, on your 100,001st mile..
surely you meant to say 10,000 miles.
an engine will not go 100,000 miles without an oil change, without something failing.
This is what happens inside your engine if you do that:

If you want your car to last, do the oil changes as recommended in the owners manual.
If you don’t want your car to last, good luck getting to 100K without and oil change.
If you are not into fixing or working on your own car, oil changes can be seen as unnecessary.
Your car runs exactly the same before and after the oil change for instance.
However, oil in your engine has one single purpose, and that is to keep all of the metal moving parts from coming into contact with each other.
Once the oil loses the ability to stop the internal friction (after xxxxmiles), you basically have metal parts rubbing against each other at a very high speed.
If you touch engine metals, they feel very smooth. However, due to the nature of metals if you look under a microscope they are very rough and jagged. Once they come into contact with each other, they are quickly destroyed due to the intense friction and heat your engine produces.
As Mr. Scotty says, oil is cheap. Engines are not.
Jiffy lube will just strip out your drain plug, use the wrong filter, or find some other way to damage your vehicle. Go to a real mechanic.
Only thing by where I live is the dealership or jiffy lube. I would have to ask around
where abouts?
One of those places ruined the rear axle of a company vehicle after draining and not refilling the axle fluid. I'm sure that there are stories where engines were ruined because they refilled the oil without the drain plug replaced and didn't find their mistake by checking the dipstick. I knew a guy when I was in the military that did his own oil change and made that mistake and ruined his engine. I could tell you other stories where so-called professionals messed up too.
New cars could probably go 100K miles without an oil change, but they are not going to go much farther with what is essentially iced tea running through them. The oil has lost most of its lubricity by then.
It’s very difficult to kill a Toyota Corolla but THAT is one way to do it… change it every 5k-6k miles and don’t listen to anyone who tells you otherwise. People try to tell me to change the oil on my 2019 Camry every 10k miles and I am like “nah I’ll stick to every 5k… 7k max”
Well I'm at the 5,000 mark now but the oil stick the oil is still light brown not dirty black but I'll just go ahead and change it since ira a big risk to keep going
Yeaaaa I get the point lol . I'd better go to jiffy lube and change that oil before the dealership has me walking.
I’d reconsider. Find an honest independent mechanic in your area for your car maintenance needs and stick to him/her. Going to an oil change joint may cause unforeseen issues due to the (sometimes) lack of expertise from their mechanics. You don’t want to drive out with a broken car after driving in just for an oil change.
Ok well say if they did mean 10,000 instead of 100,000 . That's still to high right ? I mean at the maximum 7,000 should be the highest before u change correct ?
correct
Well what about midas or take 5 auto stores ? Are they good to go to instead of jiffy lube they just built those near me
take 5 is the same thing as Jiffy. Stay away from anything considered a "chain quick lube shop"
So same with midas ?
Midas is among the worst.
Lol so all the auto chains are rip offs just better to find an on the side mechanic?
umm no. A professional mechanic, with a nice , clean, well equipped shop, and a line-up of happy customers.
