I have a 2016 Audi S6 with 172,000 miles on it. Car has held up well. Had control arms, shocks, and struts replaced a few months ago by a mechanic. The person doing the job lifted the car partially by the air bag and I heard a loud pop. I didn't notice any damage to it. Took it to Audi and they say my suspension looks great.
Anyway, I've been noticing my car bottoming out in the back when I go over dips in the road and the ride is quite rough over bumps. I suspect that it's my air bag(s) because everything else has been changed and the pop I hear when he lifted by the air bag. The bag does not seem to be losing air. Does anyone know if air bags can be damaged on the inside or in a way that is not noticeable when looking at it that would cause this issue?
If your car is like my Mercedes you have a bag and air strut in rear. If thats the case your air strut may be worn or the cars suspension is in racing or street mode.. Also jack the car up and check all the suspension components. Almost always when bags go bad the leak air. Another possibility is they aren't filling all the way from a failing compressor or small leak. If that was the case the car would be sagging in rear or whole thing would be sitting lower. The valve block is another possibility but you would be sitting lower or sagging
A bi directional scanner will help you figure out if you have any issues with air suspension or components. It Will tell you if you have a small leak, valve block issue or if compressor is timing out.
Personally I feel like it's a worn suspension part and not your air suspension.
