[Solved] Can I power my car without idling the engine and spend a night in it?

Yes, my car is still that Chevy Epica 2007.

Can I ask someone to make a power adapter that outputs around 13 to 14.5 DC Volts in voltage,

by hooking up the positive and negative posts of the car battery,

for supplying power to the car without idling the engine?

My wall outlet outputs 220 AC Volts.

I wish to have AC or heating in the car under this setup, during Summer or Winter days.

How many DC amps would it require?

Would this power adapter require high-amps wall outlets for air-conditioners?

Or could the power adapter get very bulky like an engine block itself?

btw, I don't want to damage anything lol.

Let me get this straight ... you want to sleep in your car while it's plugged into a household outlet on a regular basis?

I wish to have AC or heating in the car under this setup, during Summer or Winter days.

The A/C compressor is driven by the engine through a belt and pulley, not electricity.

Heat for the heater is generated by combustion in the engine itself, not electricity.

If you want to stay warm/cool in your car, I guess you would have to buy a small AC unit and put it in the window. Or buy an electric blanket.  I think a camping tent would be more comfortable than a cramped Epica.

thanks, but did you said that Epica is cramped?
lol maybe, but i got used to sleep thru the night on the driver's seat
(with electric adjustment)
same for the Roewe 750 hybrid (brother of Rover 75 in China)
driver's seat can't be as good as a proper bed, right?

@mountainmanjoe 😂😂

Not possible.  Only a running engine can spin the AC compressor and create the heat.

Best car for sleeping in would be a Nash with its famous travel beds. Being able to sleep in those cars was advertised as a feature for travelers and sportsmen. No heat or AC without the engine running though. (Factory publicity photo has doors removed.)

lol

Back in the day if a guy showed up in a Nash or Rambler to pick up a date her father would practically chase him away with a shotgun! {pear}:wink:

this feature needs to be revived.

@MountainManJoe we might need to bring station wagons back first

@lilwinnt6, station wagons not required for the Nash travel beds, regular sedans were equipped with them. The feature persisted with AMC/Rambler products into the 1960s, you could even get them in a convertible for "sleeping" under the stars.

@Chuck Tobias okay...

I would imagine it could be done with an electric vehicle.

then the power source shall be powerful enough

Note that some electric and plug-in hybrid cars have electrically powered AC/heat, so one could have their cooling/heating with the engine off - Teslas, RAV4 Prime, etc.

got it, thanks, and can i use these systems while the car is plugged in without causing any damage or wearing the batteries faster?

I believe so, though you would have to check on the various vehicles. I would imagine that a Tesla owner would be quite dissatisfied with their expensive car if they had to sit in a hot car while they did a recharge on the road!
