Since I've got a oil change days ago in my 2003 VW Jetta 2.0 the shop put a wrong oil 5w20 while owner's manual recommends 5w30 or 5w40 so in Walmart STP high viscosity oil treatment for under 5 bucks claims to thicken oil by increasing the viscosity. Should I use this product?
No, you don't know what you'll wind up with if you put that garbage into your oil. If it's a real problem for that engine change the oil again using the correct oil and stay away from whatever shop put in the wrong stuff.
Well as far as the reviews and what people were saying are happy with it I don't see any complaints on this product. My car still runs ok but like Scotty said using lighter oil than what is suggested will wear out the engine.
If you believe online reviews I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. (There are "reputation" companies that specialize in posting bogus reviews. Heck, we had a new restaurant in our area receive wonderful, glowing reviews before it even opened!)
I agree with @chucktobias. It won’t fix the problem and is just one more variable to go wrong.
I wouldn’t sweat it. The oil they used isn’t that far off spec. Just drive moderately (especially when the engine is cold) and do your next oil change in 3000 miles. Somewhere else.
