Can I run an old Camry on cooking oil?

I have a 2001 Toyota Camry 2.2l with 210k miles. It has reaches the age where everything needs to be replaced and it has miltiple severe oil leaks. Have to put about a quart a leak. I was thinking about just starting to refill it with vegetable oil or some other kind of cooking oil. Mainly because I feel bad for essentially dumping all of this toxic oil into the environment. How long do you think I could run this motor on such oil? I plan to get rid of this car within two years, anyway.

It's time for a new car my friend.

Don't use cooking oil in your car, please. Right now it is still worth something but if you go down that route, it's going to be worth nothing and I will guarantee you it will seize up WAY, WAY before the 2 year mark you are aiming for.

Don't do it.

Probably THE most bizarre post I've read on this website by far lol! I'd rather use dollar store oil instead of cooking oil! Hilarious...

You're not gonna be any more environmentally friendly by using cooking oil instead of your typical engine oil. As others mentioned, just take your oils to a dedicated recycling center.

Use cooking oil for cooking. Use Motor oil for motors.

well on the flip side, it might smell really good. Mmmmm .. french fries.

if it leaks that badly, then get rid of it.

Cooking oil will still get contaminated with combustion products so I don't think your plan is much better for the environment. And it will send the car to scrap heap even faster.

Using cooking oil won't work. It is possible to buy recycled motor oil and use that if you want to go that route.

Wow... Long answer short: No!

Why don't you aim for getting another car rather than getting 2 years out of a car on olive oil lmao.

No do not use coconut oil and you know I'll have special properties to build up oil pressure and lubricate the engine cooking oil would not work that.the only thing you could use cooking oil is would be in a biodiesel where you could run the biodiesel on cooking oil and it would run because it can be used as a replacement for the kerosene that runs a diesel engine

I don't think it will go 2 years on cooking oil. It'll seize long before that.

Used oil can be recycled.

By dumping oil in the environment I mean that the car does it while I drive and when it sits. I didn't mean that I do it intentionally

We know what you meant.

I would either fix the leak, replace the engine, or junk the car

Have you determined if the leak is something easy to fix like a bad gasket on the drain plug or the oil pan gasket or something more complicated like a rear main seal?
If you’d like to see what would  actually happen with cooking oil in an engine I believe the  guy who does the “project farm” YouTube channel did that once. Spoiler alert; you’ll destroy the engine.

you mean the bacon grease one?

Haha synthetic cooking oil.

Maybe just a heavier oil. As stated before, a leak in an engine will get contaminated as it passes thru the engine. Think about this, if you thought its better for the environment after living in your engine, would you cook with it? So, no its no better . Have it checked.

If you try cooking oil, make sure it is peanut oil. Maybe the engine will go a couple of minutes longer before seizing up.

Just put  the a205 ,or whatever it is, that scotty recommended.to stop oil leaks.. Do an oil change, put some  of that  in , put a little less oil in, to make room for the sealer, see if it slows the leaks down..

Cooking oil doesn't last more than 4 or 5 cycles in my deep fryer before it needs changing.  An engine runs MUCH hotter & runs longer than a deep fryer ever will.  That cooking oil will break down in no time in there!
