Car broke down

Scotty, I have a 2001 bmw 330ci and when I was leaving a friends house I got to a stop sign and when I was pulling out onto the road it bogged down and putting my foot on the gas wasn’t doing anything so I pulled over and it died. I was able to get it started a handful of times after it died but when it would start the rpm’s would just slowly fall and it would only run for about 5-10 seconds and then kill. What do u think this could be? I was suspecting fuel pump but I wanted to get your take on it. The car has 174k miles on it too by the way.

You may be correct, a bad fuel pump will do that. Have it pressure tested and that will confirm if it’s bad or not. A bad vacuum leak could also do that, but that sounds like a fuel pump or clogged fuel filter to me.

If I were you I’d check the battery first. Go to a place like autozone and have them test it. If that’s not the problem the only other things I can personally think of would be a bad alternator or water pump.
