Hi
I have a 2006 audi a4 b7, the car runs great but recently I got a check engine light. I used a scan tool and recieved a p3081 which is a coolant temperature sensor. I know nothing about cars, this is my first one. This worries me because I can theoretically be taken advantage of by a mechanic. Is my car still safe to drive? Can I overlook this for some time because of covid, times are hard and was wondering if I can put this off for a while? On average how much will this service cost? Should I just reset the check engine light and not repair? Please assist as I am a new car owner and don't know nothing!
Charlie
BTW the car has 148000 miles
Does you car have enough coolant in it?
Yes it does the fluid is between the min and max line..
Your problem is not really urgent. Your car isn't in danger or anything. But since you don't have experience with cars, then a mechanic is going to be your only choice for fixing this. Ask around and find a good one.
Mountainman joe thank you so much for your advise... I really appreciate it and it puts my mind at ease. But I must ask, I need a price range for the service. At least give me a range for the fix.
Charlie
I can't because I don't know what's causing the light. It needs to be diagnosed first.
mechanic's rate is going to be minimum 1hr = $100
Thanks!
