Car jerks at highway speeds and handbrake light comes on

My daily driver is an '07 Kia Picanto 1.1.

When I go 110 km/h (and more), the car starts jerking suddenly for about a second or so and then the problem goes away. It is unpredictable when this happens again. For example, 2 kilometres down the road it jerks again...and then again...as if the car had some sort issue keeping steady rmp and speed

Also, when I brake, the handbrake light comes on with the exclamation mark, despite the handbrake not being engaged at all.  However, this does not happen everytime I break.

What could be the issue(s) with my Picanto? Is a costly repair on the way?

I appreciate your help. Thanks.

For the Brahe, check your brake fluid level. Odds are that you are low on that.  About jerking at high speeds, change your fuel filter and then pressure test the fuel pump.

The brake light you are seeing is both for the handbrake AND for any problems with the brake system. If it is turning on when you brake, then most likely you are low on brake fluid. Because as you brake, the fluid level goes down a little to push the caliper pistons, and then when you release some of the fluid goes back into the reservoir. Check your brake fluid with regard to your brake light. As for the jerking, someone else would need to chime in for that.

You should check your brake pads.

The jerking could be misfires.
