Hey Scotty ,You are pretty wise and knowledgeable mechanics and you got almost over 35 years working on cars and seen Technology come and go from carburetors to fuel injection system to these new
GDI fuel systems. So here goes I start as a hobby when I was a kid and did auto shop in high school from there I became a Mechanic and Oil change place and move my way home and worked on Acuras for 8 My specialties were suspension transmissions entire, and High performance side of Acura NSX in the Integra type R were in my area, But I saw there was no money and we’re gonna dealerships and moved to work on heavy equipment no money in there I could used to be so I got my CDL and became a construction heavy equipment mechanic and left that became just a delivery. I know it’s a little boring telling you some story but anyway my point is I bought my kids ex-boyfriend‘s 2008 Jetta 2.5 L Manual transmission four 1500 bucks for a commuter car does it back-and-forth 38 minutes one way to work and back. Before I bought this Volkswagen a year ago My daughter asked me if I can work on her boyfriends car because it stopped moving I looked at it and I diagnosed it needed a new clutch fly wheel and all that good stuff. So I bought a new fly wheel clutch pressure plate throwout bearing and all the other stuff as I was working on it and replaced it all and it’s a good shape so that’s why I bought it The in-line five cylinder motor it’s pretty good fuel mileage , And it does for what I needed to do and it’s kind a little fun especially driving a stick shift again I love sticks, but anyway I just did some maintenance on it I replaced all the idler pulley’s all the tensioner pulley’s new belts and while I was there I replaced the water and thermostat with all new coolant as well. So what kind of other maintenance I can do on this thing it runs good it doesn’t take the oil change I put synthetic in it all the time and the kid did I put 5-40w Castro Synthetic oil in it. So how much of a nightmare is it to change the time in chain and tensioners and guides . I like this little commuter car but I want to lease last me for another year or two and then get rid of it and find another cheap little Honda hopefully like a 96 hatchback I live out in the desert in northern Nevada most of my car is a garage kept, I bought this car so I don’t put mileage on my 2013 2500 Chevy HD Duramax I do all my own maintenance and maintenance on my truck i’m really knowledgeable on diesel engines as well because I worked on a lot of caterpillar equipment and John Deere‘s with the heavy equipment operators union when I was doing. So from watching most of your YouTube videos sounds like I have the wrong cars to own? When you say it’s a Chevy and it’s going to break and the other one is a Volkswagen is going to break to because their garbage basically Hitler‘s revenge. I told a lot with my truck specially when we’re camping and I use my commuter car to save fuel because it’s one way to work 42 miles. I know you’re very loyal to Toyotas and Ford pickups , I’ve had OK luck with Toyotas and they run really good and I do last forever. But all the forms that I had that work construction mechanics trucks with the 6.0 or 6.4 Diesel engines had a lot breakdowns specially the 6.0 with injectors and head gaskets,6.4 had problems with the Regeneration problems as well In the particulate filter would always plug up and cooling problems and injectors too.I like my cars a lot what do I do just to make them last longer run until they die or keep doing all the maintenance that I know that it needs to be done that is routine. I love my Chevy diesel truck over my Dodge ram that was a piece of you know what .My Volkswagen has 181,000 miles, and my Chevy truck I have on for five years I have mostly 150,000 miles on it it runs strong I just change the coolant and thermostats on it and put in a new water pump as well in spring time I am going to change out the Allison transmission fluid and spinner filter what does good maintenance for this truck as well and will it last to make it to 500,000 miles ?OK Mr. Scotty I’m done thank you your shows keep me very well entertained specially about hearing about the old days working with your grandfather and his business and your dad have a good one I hope you enjoyed living in Tennessee .Tennessee is a cool place to live
What is the question for the Forum?
