Dear Scotty,
I changed the brakes on my wife's 97 Civic and now it pulls to the right. I recently replaced the front rotors, pads and calipers. When I performed the break-in procedure for the pads, breaking moderately hard at about 40MPH the car pulled noticeably to the right. I tried it again later that evening and it seemed a little better but it still pulls to the right. Any idea what could be causing this? I am concerned about my wife driving the car.
break it back down, and check your work. Make sure everything is in it's proper place and tightened down. Look for wear marks from rubbing.
Did you damage any brake hoses? If not, try swapping the rotors & check if it still pulls to the right.
I should add that since the car is not normally braked as hard as I did during the pad break-in, there's a chance that the problem was there before and went unnoticed. So in addition to brakes, I can think of poor wheel alignment and worn suspension components as two other possible culprits. I suspect I need to eliminate possible causes one by one, so I will start with the brakes. Thanks.
