I have a 2005 Toyota mark x with 130k miles. I just bought the car but when going from reverse to drive it will cut off unless i go from reverse, pause in neutral for 2 seconds then go to drive

It sounds like there is a problem with the torque converter. Check your ATF if you have a dipstick for it. Most likely it is going to be a brownish color at that mileage. Make sure it's at the correct fluid level. You can try changing the fluid or add some lucas oil transmission additive in, but it may not help. It may very well be that the transmission is on its last few hundred miles.

Thank you it doesn’t have a dip stick but I’ll look into it
