Scotty I have a 2012 Tacoma with 87k miles and have never changed the fluid. I went to a dealer and they wanted to flush it. I protested and asked they just drain and replace but they said they have to put it on a machine to do it. So I opted out of that service. Was that a good choice?

You did the right thing. Never flush the transmission. Either change it yourself or find a good independent mechanic.
