I have a 1994 toyota 4runner with an old diagnostics port, been running into issues with the vehicle and cannot get any codes out of the vehicle. The proceedure i understand is to jump two pins together in the diagnostics port, then turn the key on and count the CEL flashes, the only problem, is the CEL never lights and the O/D light instead flashes at a steady pace. Don't know if i am doing the procedure wrong, or if electrical/ECU is the problem, or if i'm supposed to instead be counting the O/D flashes. a side note is that outside diagnostics mode, turning the key to on without starting the engine the check engine light is the only one to not briefly light up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mECxKS874pE
sounds like the CEL is burned out
should we remove the cluster and check the wiring, because we checked the lamp before and even changed the bulb on the CEL and it still doesn't light. when dad opens the cluster, to check the CEL light again,i will have another video of the CEL bulb
we checked again and found that the twisting socket itself was bad, I ended up hard soldering an LED (w/built-in resistor) element to the copper pads and pointing the light through the cutout, everything works as expected now
