Hi, I just bought a 2001 Toyota Celica (195,668 miles, manual, JTDDR32T610086528) with the Toyota engine like you suggested in your video (1ZZ-FE). The fuel door had been broken off and today I took the car to a collision place so they could give me an estimate on replacing the fuel door. I asked if it would be fully functional and the guy pressed the button near the gas cap that shuts/opens when the fuel door latch is pulled from the inside and told me it definitely would. The next time I turned on the vehicle, the check engine light weirdly came on. I'm going to have a scan on Friday but I am wondering if the check engine light coming on could be related to the pressing of that small button near the gas cap or is this just a strange coincidence as the car is running fine.

Not likely unless the gas cap was somehow damaged or an evap hose was damaged or dislodged. You're dealing with a decades-old vehicle that's going to have deteriorating rubber parts.
