2008 ford escape stalling with poor engine performance and check engine after driving for about 5 minutes but never shuts off. auto zones fix finder read was p0400, U0140-20, C1991-20 , it said suggested parts was EGR valve. is that what is causing this? are EGR valves known to do this? and what do the 3 codes mean? I APPRECIATE THE HELP. btw great videos I've learned a lot a week ago I didn't even know a car had sparkplugs XD
Each code corresponds to a specific problem. While the code can point you in the right direction. You would need to verify. They seem to be three digfferent codes, not sure if they are interrelated.
1. **P0400 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Flow Malfunction**:
- This code indicates a problem with the EGR system, which is responsible for recirculating a portion of the exhaust gases back into the engine cylinders to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. A malfunction could be due to issues like a clogged EGR valve, faulty EGR solenoid, or blocked EGR passages.
2. **U0140-20 - Lost Communication With Body Control Module (BCM)**:
- The "U" codes refer to network communication issues. This specific code indicates that there is a communication failure between the main control module and the body control module. The "-20" is typically a sub-code indicating a specific nature of the fault or failure. This could be due to wiring issues, a faulty BCM, or problems with the vehicle's CAN bus network.
3. **C1991-20 - Possible Stability Control or ABS Issue**:
- "C" codes pertain to chassis issues, particularly those related to the anti-lock braking system (ABS) or stability control. The exact nature of this code can vary by manufacturer. The "-20" suffix might indicate a specific fault or condition. It generally points to a problem with the vehicle's stability control or ABS, which could be caused by faulty sensors, wiring issues, or a malfunctioning control module.
