I have an automatic 1998 Chevy Lumina, with 175k miles on a 3100 engine. It has stopped pulling and friend looked at it and said it has too much trans fluid, could this be the reason its not pulling? If so could reducing the amount or replacing to the correct amount fix it? if not what else would you suggest?

It's worth a shot but overfilling it could have damaged the transmission too. It's worth a shot but be sure its filled properly this time around and see hopefully shes not shot.

Yes. Do not overfill transmission. It's designed to run with the fluid at a certain height inside of it.
