This question first requires context. I was at a gas station when I saw a group of high schoolers attempting to add oil into their car. They were searching all over the engine bay trying to figure out where to put it. Eventually, I saw one of them pull out an ignition coil. I tried to intervene but they told me that they had it handled. Then, my heart sank. They poured oil straight in and put the ignition coil back over top of it. Now I know that engine oil leaking into the engine can obviously cause issues but how long would an engine last with a pure, unadulterated, quart of oil poured in it like that?
They pulled out the ignition coil, but did they actually take out the spark plug? I doubt they took out the spark plug considering how dumb they were, and the oil probably just got filled up in the spark plug well. In that case, no oil would've got in the combustion chamber, but they probably ruined the ignition coil.
Sometimes you just can't fix stupidity.
I bet you there was a standout - a lanky bimbolina, in that group, … and a chump, the one who told you that they can handle it - than moved on to remove the ignition coil, was the one that was trying to impressed her with his skills, … such happenings are most common!
F.S.
You guessed right!
I'd be more interested if it was even their car. It is really that easy to miss the oil filler cap, even for a novice?
I don't know how you would. It happened in front of my eyes and I still can hardly believe it actually happened. It's like watching a train crash. You're frozen in both shock and awe
Well you live and you learn I suppose... if you aren’t sure then you probably shouldn’t do it until you get some clear instructions on how to do that even if it’s as simple as adding oil, but luckily they won’t have a terrible issue with the car however it will misfire now that the spark plug an coil are contaminated with oil they would only need to clean the oil out, maybe replace the coil an plug if it’s bad enough
I would have laughed so hard at them.
I imagine that the ignition coil sleeve wouldn’t let much in to the actual engine?
Back in the 70's when I was working in a warehouse, I saw a newbie looking for the gas filler on a fork truck. The only cap he could find was for the radiator. He proceded to fill the radiator with gasoline . Luckily, we caught him before he started the engine and emptied the radiator. I've often wondered what would have happened when the gas would have reached the engine.
Yep, you can't fix stupid!
