Choose a Pilot or Pathfinder?

Hi There,

I would love to get an opinion on which car is the best option between a 2005 4WD Honda Pilot EX with 104k miles, a 2010 Honda Pilot Touring 4WD with 153k miles or a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder LE  4WD with 132k miles.

Thank you!

Assuming it checks out, I’d go with the 2010 Honda Pilot. Just makes sure the timing belt and water pump has been changed in schedule, or that you take account the maintenance cost for doing that.

I’m not too fond of the Jatco transmissions found in the Pathfinder.

Thank you. From what I understand, there should be a sticker that tells you if the TB and WP have been changed?

You can call the Honda dealer and provide the VIN# and they can tell you.

Thank you. The dealer also has a bunch of hybrid Toyota Highlanders but it makes me nervous that they have so many of them. I don't know if they are just trouble, or if they are just an extremely popular vehicle in the area. I know hybrids can be tricky.

Hybrids can be very expensive in repairs. Do not think about buying them used.

IMHO, avoid any hybrid that is over 3 years old or driven over 50,000 miles.

Honda all day long and definitely NOT from any dealer.

I would get the 2010 Pilot myself out of those three. Just make sure it has not been wrecked, flooded, or stolen.

Pathfinder would come second place. 2005 Pilot is gonna put you into trouble with tranny and radiator failures. Also, timing belt services need to be done on the Honda whereas Nissan has a timing chain. 2010 Pilot will be ur best bet though as an all-rounder.
