2013 Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L 109000 miles
During cold startup there is a continuous knocking noise when transmission is shifted into Rev or any other gear but goes away in Neutral or Park. The knocking goes away after a few minutes of warmup. There is no trouble codes. The AFM has been disabled for years after initial lifter failure and repair. I am guessing torque converter but really do not know. What is the most common diagnosis for this?
You should double check your oil level and condition if you haven’t already but sounds like an oil or oil pressure issue cold and under load. I could be wrong but it doesn’t sound transmission related by how you described it but more of an under load cold engine noise. Hope that helps
I do self maintenance and the oil may have 100 miles on it tops, changed twice a year, less than 6K miles per year, Mobil 1 or the more expensive Pensoil 5w-30, 6 quarts. I noticed it last summer. I mainly use it for towing a 17ft travel trailer in the summer and around town in the Idaho winters Perhaps I should get one of those noise sensing kits to narrow it down?
It definitely wouldn’t hurt just to isolate the noise down a little further but it sounds like you know what your doing . Never mean to insult anyone but always have to start with the obvious and easiest checks first
Oh I am not that touchy lol, I did not explain the maintenance in the original question so no faulting you there; simple and obvious is expected. This is a new one for me so thought I would post it. Thanks and stay safe.
