Cold transmission issue

Scotty, I have a 2007 Honda Accord, just under 95,000 miles, 4 cylinder, 5 speed auto, I've owned it for a year and a half and I notice sometimes when it gets cold outside (around 40 degrees Fahrenheit) when start it and try to put it in gear, the shifter button is locked. I press a small screwdriver into the Shift Lock Release hole and it runs fine. This is my daily driver and it has no issues shifting, weird noises, etc but the Shift Lock has only occurred about 4 times. Crazy enough, during last month's winter storm here in Texas, it was 5 degrees out here and I was able to start the car and move it with no problem. What could be causing this?

Did you check the fluid level?odds are that the fluid level is low but when it warms up, you won’t have any issue.

how would low fluid affect the shift lever button?

Because you do not have issue when it gets warm. Also, as @mountainmanjoe mentioned, it could be the brake switch.

It could be a faulty brake switch
