Coolant isn’t draining!

2006 Jeep Liberty / Automatic / 180k miles

I bought this off a private seller.

I went to change the coolant and discovered that the reservoir was empty.

When I filled it with distilled water and ran the car a bit, no liquid came out of the petcock.

I stuck a pipe cleaner in the drain and it was thick & dark, sorta oil-like.

* Do you think the radiator is just clogged or a needs a replacement?

thanks!! 😎

I assume you removed the radiator cap. Odds are that it is clogged up and time for a new radiator.

If the petcock is clogged up drain it by taking off the lower radiator hose.

What might be the case is that the previous owner had a leak and put in some "stop leak" additives to keep it from leaking until he sold it. You should probably *shudder* do a check for a head gasket problem.
