2002 ford focus svt, 234k, 6 speed
played around with this car putting time and money into it. running great. problem is, it's not running hot at all, both temp & oil temp are steady. know these cars run kinda hot, but about once or twice a monthly i must add coolant, not dripping, steaming away.
Have a feeling what it may be. is it as bad as i fear? thinking water getting thru a gasket & out exhaust.. no white 'smoke' temp, temp needle never goes past str8 up, oil temp always good.
thx, big fan *edit.. no water in the oil
replace the pressure cap
talking the pressure cap on the coolant reservoir ? thx
the one that holds pressure. It should say right on it 15 PSI or something like that.
radiator or reservoir
hiya, replaced the cap, looked for leaks just not seeing it anywhere ..hvn't got 'up in there' getting over a knee injury, but have jacked it up for quick peek, nothing wet or obvious.. added, approximately 40 oz of coolant since last post. but car is 20 yrs old. is this something i should just deal with? keeping an eye on it. my exp w/my old cars in the day when i was a kid tells me, might be the water pump 'weeping', just not seeing it. no dampness, no codes, no dash lights, car runs like a sowing machine, perfect steady idle, sounds great, no smoke, no steam, never runs hot
thanks, big fan. T
*no coolant in oil. oil looks 'nice'
If coolant was escaping through the cap, it would be doing so as a gas, not liquid. I guess you'll see in a month if it helped.
Replace the radiator cap. Also, pressure test the cooling system. If it checked out, test the head gasket for leak.
There are only two answers here; it's either leaking it or burning it.
