Hello. I was going to buy a Civic or Corolla in the next few months as I wanted a smaller car than my Camry that gets good gas mileage. However, I have found that the insurance states on these two cars would be very high (at least 50 more a month than the same year Camry). Is there an alternative car that could be good? I thought about the VW Golf with the ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, but Scotty warns people about buying VWs. I really don’t want the Hyundai/Kia products due to their never ending engine problems that keep coming up. I take good care of my vehicles and am not hard on them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I assume we are talking new/ newer years? What do you think about the Mazda 3?
Try Honda Fit or/and Mazda3, … both very good cars!

It is amazing the amount of space that is available in the Fit. Personally I like the Mazda, but my daughter has had her Fit for 3+ years now and loves it more than when she bought it.
It’s, just perhaps, a best little car? I own a ‘10 Sport. Three people, a wheelchair, and still room to spare! Runs like a well made Swiss watch, … efficient, reliable, fun to drive. Construction is spartan, but solid, durable. Eleven years of use, and still looks grand. Bit noisy, of course, if you flog it!

Weird how insurance is higher. There must be some logic to it.
Mazda 3 could be an option. Or the Subaru Impreza.
Thank you. I will check out the Mazda.
@adamjg1984 some issues people reported with Mazda3 but overall good car: https://www.carcomplaints.com/Mazda/MAZDA3/
Thanks everyone for the advice. The insurance companies had told me the reason for the high prices were that the civics and corollas had a higher rate of theft and that younger people tend to drive them (I’m 36 and have a perfect record). The price per month for a Corolla hatchback was $139 where a Golf was $95. I will look in to the Mazda, Subaru, and Honda Fit. See if they are more affordable to insure.
Mazda 3, Subaru Impreza, Suzuki SX4
Subaru Impreza, Honda Fit or Mazda, maybe even a Subaru Legacy, although I am not really sure what the insurance prices are like on it.
