Hey Scotty, I have a 2015 Toyota Corolla. I’ve noticed it automatically engine brakes when going down hill. The revs automatically go up and it won’t just drive down the hill without braking - there’s no way to allow it to pick up speed. Is this normal for the cvt?

While I'm not an expert on cvt's, I've been driving my 2012 Lexus ct200h for 6 years with no problems from the transmission. I've never noticed it going slower down hill without taking my foot off the accelerator or if the cruise control is on. That being said, there are many online Toyota/Lexus forums that are very helpful. This is one I belong to: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/.
I don't know much about CVT's since I haven't owned one before but what I do know is that their built to save fuel. Engine braking downhill saves fuel. And you better pray it is normal because if starting to go out its gonna be several thousand dollars to replace. This is why Scotty hates those transmission(along with all the problems they've had)
No, what you described does not. Get codes read from a reader that for sure will get Toyo U codes (com codes).
Interesting. It's really not super noticeable. I've owned the car for 4 months and only just started to notice it. Very subtle. In that case, I may sell. I thought these things were bulletproof but apparently not! Should have bought an older corolla for half the price.
Also, the car only has 130,000 ks on it so I'm surprised the transmission is having issues (if this isn't normal).
