Daughter's boyfriend hit an elk. His old truck will be written off. Have a buddy who is privately selling his 92 year old fathers 1996 Dodge 1500 RAM two wheel drive truck with only 140,000 km (87,000 miles) mostly highway miles on it with the 5.2 L engine. It is an automatic. Is it wise to even consider a 24 year old truck? His asking price seems high at $6,000 CDN. One owner, looks well maintained.
the asking price is absolutely ridiculous
here's an '04 with 150,000km for $6200

Man cars are expensive in Canada almost more expensive than Caly.
Thanks... that is what I thought.
@skywalker In addition, unless you’re the mechanic & know the exact service/maintenance history of the vehicle, it’s never a good idea to buy a vehicle from a family member/friends as that’s how relationships turn sour. (In case something big breaks & you end up with a moneypit).
No, that price is terrible. For that price you can get a much newer truck.
Get an 05' Silverado, those were good trucks. You might be able to get it for that much too.
His asking price of $4700 USD is way overpriced and I think you should run away as fast as you can and tell your daughters boyfriend to never hit an elk ever again.
Where I live we have problems with deers. They can be very unpredictable. Mostly they get hit by cars because when drivers see them, it is already too late, especially at night. There are also spots you cannot see them until they jump in front of you.
It almost happened to me. I was driving a little bit slower than usually that night because a bus in far front of me when I suddenly saw a deer crosing road.
Unfortunately my brother did not have luck when a deer, hidden in a stream next to the road, jumped in front of him.
@g-t
trajic and funny enough I just arrived from a trip and on the way 2 deer jumped in front of us and 2 other cars we were inches from hitting them.
24 years old? WOW! At that age & where it is (I'm assuming Canada) that frame rot would be an issue. Rubber hoses & electrical connections all rot/corrode over time. I used to live in the snow belt of America (Midwest) & frame rot with body rust are HUGE concerns. Most cars there never last more than 15 years.
Just my thoughts.
