Hi Scotty I recently brought my car to the dealership for its free oil change and they put 5w30 oil in the car. The problem is the car calls for 0w20. I asked the dealership about this and they said since I live in New Jersey they can put 5w30 because according to them It doesn't get cold enough for the 0w20. The car is a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe. I fell they are lying to me. What should I do
They ripped you off. They gave you the cheaper oil to cut their costs.
They're lying, of course. Since cold weather is coming I'd have an oil change done with the correct oil as called for by the manufacturer. Variable valve timing mechanisms are sensitive to oil viscosity.
Don't ever take your car back there first off and yea that's a load of bullshit. If your oil cap says to use 0w20 then use it only thats what the car was designed for. Get that oil out of your car and get the right stuff in there and those idiots at the dealership the bill. I guarantee they just didn't have any 0w20 and just blew a load of smoke up your butt. Get it change to the 0w20 asap.
Should I change the oil filter as well
Yes, it will still be loaded with the wrong oil.
Yes, I would call Hyundai customer service and tell them what happened. Tell them the dealers name and location. Demand your money back. Yup and get the correct oil in your vehicle.
I just pulled up the manual and the oil viscosity depends on the engine your vehicle has.
The 2.4 GDI is showing 5W-20, and the 2.0 T-GDI is showing 5W-30 should be used.
The 2.4 GDI has the same temperature range for 5W-20 and 0/5W-30.
The 2.0 T-GDI is showing the same temperature range for 0/5W-30 and surprisingly 5W-40.
Please review your manual, you may be okay.
