Hello everyone!
I took this 98 Toyota 4RUNNER with 150k miles that i bought a few weeks ago for an alignment job and an oil change at a mechanic shop two days ago and today i noticed a puddle of oil under the front passenger side of the car. I can see it dripping oil slowly from the steering rack boot (had to google what that was cuz i'm a noob). Is this due to the mechanic doing the alignment work? the car never had that leaking problem before and btw that was my first time going there, also when i picked it up the receptions said it was a real pain in the bum for them to do the alignment and it was still half a degree out that they couldn't fix. Should i take it back and tell him about the leaking or are they not correlated? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
You can ask them if they know why your steering is leaking. I see no reason to make accusations or get confrontational.
If you want to start making a fuss or accusing people, you better be able to back it up or you'll look like an idiot when they push back.
chill guy, the title is to attract viewers 😉
well mission accomplished you got my reaction

wait until you see the wrath of this forum on an issue they frankly don't know much about
lol. I won't ask.
Front end alignment is pretty straight forward. Just loosen the tie rod end nuts and turn inner tie rod. I would check all your fluids and see if any is really low and if you find which one then you’ll know what’s leaking. It could also be old oil from when they removed the filter. Yours is under the alternator and if you have a gravel shield it can get pretty messy. Maybe they were tight on the brake clean. But simply take it back and have them check it out. Nice customers get nice things.
Hell yea, please report back with your findings......
They said "its an old car and that could've happened at any time, sorry but its 1k to fix, the best we can do is offer 10% off and make it $900"
I’d get in touch with the owner or get a lawyer and send a demand letter.
If they refuse, file a small claims court action.
Don’t be afraid, you can do this.......
at least they're trying to compromise with you. It's still a lot of money for a 23yo vehicle though, isn't it.
It's hard to say, but if that was the case unfortunately it will also be really hard to prove.
