Hello Scotty,
I am an off road desert racer with a home in Baja near Cabo. We are looking for a 4x4 SUV to keep permanently at our home in Baja. I need the best possible mileage and a tow rating of 6500-7500 Lbs. I want to keep the price down so I have been looking 5-7 year old diesel SUV’s Such as the Mercedes ML350 Blutec and the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 Diesel. The Jeep has the Italian diesel vs the German diesel. What are your recommendations and thoughts? Thank you
Robert
Modern Diesles are all high maintenance 2010+ and the Italian ones are junk. The german ones are much better but are very big underengineered money-pits. Consider a Ford F-150 or Toyota SUV Or maybe a Honda Pilot 4wd. I dont know the tow rating look for 2010 and older if wanting diesel or get a newer Toyota or Honda, maybe a Subaru Forester.
If you plan to keep it permanently, those two will shell out money from your wallet because of repairs. Better take a look at Toyota. They cost more used but maintenance costs are much lower.
The Tacoma will not tow 7,500 lbs
It sounds like he needs a heavy duty truck.
But Tundra and Land Cruiser can.
