Hi Scotty,
I'm a big fan of sporty cars and since a long time I'm dreaming about getting a Dodge Challenger but I don't need or want a brand new one (waste of money in my eyes). Here are my questions:
Which years of the Dodge Challenger are good ones to buy? What do you think overall of a Challenger? Do these cars have/get a lot of repair troubles? Is an automatic ok or a manual better for these cars? (currently driving a manual but I'm tired of shifting (shifting issues) and there is also quite a lot of traffic where I live which makes manual transmission just too cumbersome)
If not the Dodge Challenger what do you think about the Chevrolet Camaro?
I like these two types of cars not only because of their sportiness but they Go when you step on the gas and they have a good body weight to them which stays strong and secure in tight turns. I hate those cars that appear to have barely any weight to them and seem to fly out of every turn if you take it a little bit too fast. I like to 'feel" the car but I don't mean every little bump and stone I drive over (my current car, a Scion-FRS, appears to have no shock absorbers and every little bump in the road I can feel). I also don't like it if the car is too low sitting (mine is) , meaning has little clearance to the ground which always makes you prone and have to watch out for not hitting those stupid speed bumps or those annoying parking lot cement blocks they have in those marked parking spots.
Appreciate any feedback regarding the Challenger. Thanks.
Do the Challenger over the Camaro. The Dodge has it's fair share of issues but they are so much more spacious than the Camaro.
I've owned a few and the only complaint I have had is the weather stripping along the hood isnt that great. It will come loose and you have to fasten it back on and secure it well. But the ride quality is good, the power is there....I bought the R/T 5.7L and it was plenty for daily driving. If you go 392, realize it is premium fuel only and it will down gas like a drunk Uncle going through the egg nogg at Christmas time.
Best years just depends on what style you like best. I'm a sucker for the 08 - 14, not really big on the wanna-be BMW angel eye front end on the new ones or those LED tail lights either. If you have traffic, get an auto. I did every time and never missed having a stick.
