Dodge Charger No Start

Asking for a friend.

Dodge Charger 2010/2011.

No codes. Car won’t start. We think something is up with the fuel system.

We tried starter fluid, and the car starts fine. But will die because there is no fuel getting to it

Before I took a look with my unprofessional eyes, he had replaced the fuel pump. And it seemed to work a few days and fixed the initial problem, but no longer.

Assuming the fuel pump is fine, how would we go about finding the problem for why fuel isn’t getting into the engine.

Did you check the fuel pressure

Assuming the fuel pump is fine

don't assume.

Same answer we give everyone who asks: measure fuel pressure.

While I haven’t tried this solution out, it seems highly probable ... which is super duper expensive.

Why automatically jump to the most expensive conclusions? Diagnose properly or you'll waste a ton of time and money barking up the wrong tree. You haven't learned anything from being on this forum.

Is the pump turning on? You should hear it hum when you turn the key.

When I say assume, it’s for the sake of argument. Think of it like a diagnosis tree. Just contingency planning, once the fuel pump is ruled out.

The fuse box is expensive. But if it is indeed the TIPM system, the bypass solution is significantly cheaper and less labor intensive.

I don't waste time on assumptions and planning on hypotheticals. My time is better spent diagnosing. I can rule out half a "tree" in a few minutes.

I guess that is the difference between our thought processes! You’re quite experienced at what you do. And I am not. I do like to learn though, so I think of the contingencies, and have a plan of attack should one of the contingencies arises. You’re probably skilled and knowledgeable enough not to need such planning.

I just find that it tends to lead one too far astray. You read about other people's problems, and you think to yourself "hey that sounds just like my problem. It must be the same thing. I'll just do what he did because it's easier and I don't have to think about it". Except, it's not the same problem, and you wasted too much time focusing on it, and it caused you to ignore what's in front of you. It's more productive to focus on reality and hard data/facts. Just my experience.

I guess we have two different ways of looking at things!

oh my mistake. I thought you were asking for help, not having a chit chat.

A little of both.

Update: While I haven’t tried this solution out, it seems highly probable. I just passed this information along to my friend. Hopefully it fixes the problem.

With many Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep vehicles, their fuse box has something called TIPM.

Usually you can just swap out relays and fuses. And for many relays and fuses, you can. But for the fuel pump relay in particular, it is built in to the actual fuse box.

The solution is a new fuse box, which is super duper expensive.

But there is a hack that this guy from Vertical Visions came up with. It’s basically jumping the fuse with another fuse. (For lack of technical terms).

If there is anyone with this problem, Google and YouTube: “Dodge fuel pump TI PM bypass”. There are a ton of videos about this problem and the bypass solution. Vertical Visions sells a bypass kit.

I had no idea about this TIPM thing. Learned something new, despite not having any Chrysler products.
