I've read in the past that the "fix" Honda came out with for the OD problem doesn't fully stop oil dilution, and that the fix causes other unwanted issues, like changing the idle, keeping the AC from working as well, etc. It's difficult to find out if the problem still exists, because the mods on all the Honda forums close any threads discussing the issue (as they often do when you post anything even slightly negative about Honda).
Also, does that mean the cars Honda is currently making would have the same unwanted side-effects as the older cars that had the fix applied?
If you use the new oil, the issue seems to be taken care of.
Yes and no.
Yes, Honda still does have a problem, just like Toyota with new engine oils.
If you just go with "service minder" scheduling your oil changes, … they having problems: dilution, oil pressure operated system acting up (VVT for example), turbo-lubrication ( oil feed lines coking) bottom of pistons oil spray cooling (jets plugging)
No, because there is quite simple solution. What seems to eliminate the problems is frequency of oil changes.
Quietly, some service folks are admitting that "service minder" needs some "fiddling with", … like in making 40% oil remaining point being a, … well, a point that you really, really should be thinking of changing that oil about right now!
But, … how do you tell folks that long life oil in your new car is really not suited for a very long life in your new car? Dilemma, ...
F.S.
that engine and CVT forced us to buy a RAV4
They did fix it with software updates but I would still avoid the 1.5 Turbo engine.
