Parasitic drain in 2001 Lincoln Town Car

Hi! I have a 2001 lincoln town car with 137k. New motorcraft battery,  new motorcraft starter, new terminal ends. I even had the relays replaced in the drivers door module cuz I heard that might be the issue. If the car sits for a few days, its dead. I just ordered the 1 ohm 10 watt resistor u mentioned in ur video. So I have to wait till it comes in to do ur draw test. Any ideas?  Nothing is left on. Im a car guy like u but im baffled. Thanks man!

The resistor Scotty talked about is to clear the computer, not check for parasitic draw. That's done with a simple test light or an ohmmeter.

@doc, @mmj - That's what I thought as well but it turns out that Scotty has a short video from about 12 years ago showing a procedure where a resistor is used to measure overall current drain using a voltmeter and then you pull fuses until the drain stops to find the faulty circuit.

isn't that what current mode is for on multimeters? they already have a shunt resistor built into them.

Methinks the video is outdated.

Yes, that's the way I've always done it to get a direct reading of mA being drawn. Not sure why Scotty recommended using a resistor and voltmeter to do it.

Me three. A cheap test light or a multimeter is all you need. Why the resistor? @mmj and @chucktobias

You need to check for which circuit is causing the parasitic drain.

that's the first I've heard of this. I don't think you need it.
