Hi Scotty:  Years ago in 1994 I bought a new Honda Civic hatchback with a 5 speed , no a/c, no radio.  The salesman called it a guppy.  It cost about $18k in todays dollars.  I drove it 200K miles on the original clutch and sold it in 3 days.  What would be a comparable new car today?

Base model civic with a standard is what I'd go for (maybe a Corolla?). Get a small 4 banger, should be good for another 200k, probably more with proper maintenance.

The lowest trim civic.

unfortunately, the manual transmission civics come from the higher trims.

So I do know that Honda has stopped making the base LX trim on most of their cars due to the chip and supply chain issues. The sport trim civic sedan comes with a naturally aspired engine and cvt; I have one and it's a nice comfortable car with good gas mileage. The sport trim of thr civic hatchback gives you the option to pick between cvt and manual and it also comes with a naturally aspired engine. The other option is a corolla automatic cvt; no more manual option for 2023. Either of these cars are good so pick the one you like. Or if you want a small suv then corolla cross is worth considering too.
