[Solved] Electrical whirring/whining when accelerating?

Topic starter

Car is a 2004 Chevrolet Impala, 3.4 Liter standard model.

230k miles on the odometer, with a refurbished engine that’s at around 165

CEL is on, diagnostic applied and read and the codes given were P0420, P0455, which seem to point to “CAT” problems.

car has also been shifting somewhat rough and eating gas like crazy, as well as the giveaway sulphuric egg smell when driving.

However I just noticed tonight the car is making an electrical whirring/whining sound, ONLY when accelerating, particularly, in the lower gears. Is this part of the “CAT” related problems, or is it something else, maybe a battery or alternator issue? I recorded a video of the sound it was making which I’m including below. Thanks for your time.

Sounds like the power steering pump to me? Is the sound coming from under the hood?

Is it only when moving?  How about sitting still?  Will it increase moving, or trying to move, the steering wheel when still? Does it go away if the radio volume is turned up/down?

I had a whirring sound one time that was electrical feedback on the radio.  Stoopid ears or stoopid sounds.   {black}:idontknow:
