2004 Jaguar XJ8 falling apart

I have a 2004 Jaguar xj8 and it was misfiring badly.  I changed spark plugs & coils, cleared the codes but still have rough idle and engine light flashes on and off and then stays on until cleared. Engine coolant low light comes on and the reservoir is full.  Restricted performance light flashes on and off

What were the code numbers you got before clearing?

Also, check for a blown head gasket. Scotty has a video on that.

Fair warning.  I have never really worked on Jaguars (or Fords). And I’m not a mechanic. But i do troubleshoot and work on my own cars. So this could be a shot in the dark. And how I would go about thinking about the problem.

Why do I say Fords? In 2004, Ford owned Jaguar at the time, and used many Ford parts in Some Jaguars.

Anyhow, I’m guessing the Jag is a V8? You have 3 cylinders misfiring, judging from the codes, it is cylinder 6, 7, 8.

IMHO, it’s odd to have 3 misfiring at the same time, which would suggest it is something other than spark plugs or coils.

The P1316 code indicates something other than spark plugs or coils as well. It could be a control module for fuel of some sort, or something where communication isn’t happening correctly that causes a misfire.

That’s where I would continue the search, going down the P1316 rabbit hole.

If you have a fancy enough scan tool, you might be able to look at the fuel trims to help guide your search.
