I just installed a serpentine belt on my 2018 RAV4. I needed my son's help to swing out the tensioner for me, but it got done! I just found out that belts are directional? I had my wife turn over the engine for me a few times, but I could not see any arrows. I have put about 200 miles on the belt so far without any issues. Is this belt still safe to use?
I've never heard that. To my knowledge fan belts (either the old or new kind) are symmetrical, not directional. You just need to make sure they're oriented properly which on modern cars means the ribbed surface of the belt should be riding on ribbed pulleys and the smooth surface on smooth pulleys.
@chucktobias Thanks Chuck! The ribbed part is facing the ribs on the pully. I know that my Piaggio MP3 had a directional CVT belt so I got a little concerned.
