Hello Scotty! I have a 2007 Nissan Maxima with 62,000 miles and one day on the highway the car stopped accelerating. I have only owned the car for a year and I bought it for $5,000. We took it to a mechanic and he said the transmission needs to be replaced. I am looking to sell it and instead purchase a 2011 Honda Accord Coupe for 9,900. I live in Massachusetts. Is this a good idea? My parents are telling me to pay to have the transmission replaced but I do not trust putting in another transmission that’s probably going to fail too. I am student in first year of college and I’m commuting to college next year so I need a reliable car. Thank you for your time!
I'm with you, Josh. The cost of transmission replacement (if that's the problem) will exceed the value of the car, with high chance of more problems down the road.
Honda makes better cars than Nissan. Check our buying guide in the FAQ for years and issues to avoid. Good luck.
Those years are not super problematic especially for an out of the blue no acceleration I would get a second opinion on the cvt diagnosis before condemning the car. Those years were more common to have abs sensor concerns because of corrosion in the rear sensors that causes wheel speed fluctuations and cause a lack of acceleration and power cut
